Join Lucy Daykin, Global Head of the Exceptional Coach Programme at Grant Thornton International (GTI), and business coach Olivia Gadd for this EMCC Global GPS keynote on creating a global coaching culture.

Lucy’s role is to achieve this across the 135 countries served by the 53,000-person-strong accountancy and consulting membership firm.

Lucy and Olivia are joined in a dynamic dialogue by the GTI global team of Kim Schmidt, Global Leader of People and Culture, Francesca Lagerberg, Global Leader of Network Capabilities, and Kamal Shah, CEO and Managing Partner of Grant Thornton Kenya. The panel will invite you as participants to further explore the challenges and opportunities of taking coaching global during a number of break-out sessions – also setting the scene for further iterative world café round tables through the three time blocks of the EMCC Global GPS itself.

Bio

Lucy Daykin is the Global Head of the Exceptional Coach Programme, and leads coaching for the global network at Grant Thornton International Ltd (GTIL). Her role is to work with approximately 130 Member Firms in the Grant Thornton network to build a coaching culture through the EMCC Global Accredited Exceptional Coach Programme for member firm, senior partners and CEOs. She also oversees the Manager as Coach programme to develop coaching skills for people managers across the global network. She is an EMCC Global Senior Practitioner Coach and Mentor, and a Master Facilitator on GTILs global Advance Leader Programme and Harvard Business School Senior Leadership Programme. Lucy has been in this pioneering role at GTIL since 2018. She was previously the Head of Coaching Services at Grant Thornton UK – this was a new offering for clients developed by Lucy and her team and formed part of Advisory Services which worked alongside Board Effectiveness and Governance. Coaching services offered to clients included: executive coaching, team coaching, creating a coaching culture and coach supervision. She also pioneered and chaired the first coaching standard for the apprenticeship levy in the UK. Lucy has been instrumental in accrediting the Exceptional Coach Programme with Grant Thornton’s partnership with EMCC Global. Grant Thornton has been offering the accredited Exceptional Coach Programme to the global network since 2018.

Francesca Lagerberg is the Global leader – network capabilities for Grant Thornton International Ltd (GTIL) and a partner in Grant Thornton UK LLP. Her role is to work with the approximately 130 Member Firms in the Grant Thornton network to encourage growth and capability improvement, organically and via strategic mergers, so the network remains compelling to clients and our people. This includes programmes to drive Grant Thornton growth in strategic markets. She leads the Network Capabilities Team who are based in various places around the globe to provide on the ground support to member firms. She has sat on the GTIL Global Leadership Team since 2013. Francesca was previously the Global leader – tax and during her five years in that role the service line grew to exceed US$1 billion in revenue for the first time and became the fastest growing service line in the network. She has also played a role in leading on people and culture issues and risk management. Francesca was part of one of the first cohorts in Grant Thornton UK who trained as a coach with EMCC Global. She obtained her qualification and went on to become an EMCC Global Senior Practitioner Coach and Mentor. She uses the tools of coaching everyday and is an advocate for how it can dramatically improve leadership and bring the best out of a team. She has benefited from coaching herself and also is an NLP practitioner. Francesca writes about global matters regularly for the professional and world-wide press and lectures extensively on topical issues impacting on clients and professional services. She is also a regular commentator on radio and TV and the co-sponsor for Grant Thornton’s annual Women in Business report plus speaking on Grant Thornton’s International Business Reports. In 2016 she was awarded the International Accounting Bulletin’s Personality of the Year award.

Kim Schmidt is the Grant Thornton Leadership, People and Culture Global Leader. Kim joined GTIL in January of 2018 as a member of the Global Leadership Team. In this role, Kim is working to develop transformational leaders who build a culture of innovation and collaboration across our network. Prior to this Kim lead formation of the Human Capital Consulting practice in GT Australia. Kim also spent 3 years as the People and Culture Director – Australia. This role sat on the Strategic Leadership team and reported directly to the board with responsibility for culture and for risks associated with People and Culture within the firm. With over twenty years of experience working in South Africa, Australia and Asia, Kim has built a reputation as a transformational leader with a passion for building dynamic organisations that truly value the positive impact leadership, diversity and cultural innovation can have on sustained performance. Kim has advised senior leadership teams and clients on a range of critical people, leadership and cultural transformation priorities inviting them to rethink their approach to leading in order to support sustained performance. Working largely within the Professional Services and Retail sectors, Kim has successfully led a number of complex cultural and transformation assignments, the most recent being Grant Thornton Australia’s transformation program that underpinned the establishment of a truly integrated national professional services practice. Kim strives to develop and implement creative and innovative people solutions that deliver business results in a complex, changing and challenging environment. An example of this was initiating 125 Partner and senior leaders from GT Australia spending 7 days in Cambodia building homes for severely disadvantaged families. Kim has also spearheaded a number of important Partner and leadership development initiatives within Grant Thornton Australia, New Zealand and Asia. Kim is passionate about leading out on diversity and has been activity involved in Australia in a number of mentoring and coaching programs for women.

Kamal Shah is the Managing Partner at Grant Thornton Nairobi Kenya. He joined the firm in 1988 when the firm was known as Vipul Shah & co. as a tax Senior. He rose through the ranks and became managing partner of the firm in 1997. Kamal looks after overall management and operation of the firm and is responsible for the business development. As a managing partner he is involved in setting the policies and the long term strategies of the organisation. Kamal also has additional responsibilities as in-charge of the company secretarial division of the firm. Kamal is a recent participant on the Grant Thornton Exceptional Coach Programme. As the hub leader of Grant Thornton East Africa, Kamal is responsible for bringing together firms in Kenya, Uganda, and Ethiopia as well as correspondent firms in Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, and Somalia. He has spearheaded the growth of the Grant Thornton business in this region through collaboration and value addition in shared resources.

Olivia Gadd is a senior facilitator and supervisor on Grant Thornton International’s Exceptional Coach Programme. Additionally she runs, and is the lead practitioner of, an established leadership coaching practice in the UK. An EMCC Global Accredited Senior Coaching Practitioner she is currently finalising her EMCC Global Supervision Accreditation. Olivia has spent a varied, 25-year career working with and on boards, specialising in strategy, marketing and communication. This, allied to an avid interest in brain science, motivation and impact led very naturally to work in executive coaching and development. Innately curious and questioning, she helps people to analyse their experiences, deepen insights and build self-awareness. Having worked in or acted as a consultant to businesses in diverse industries, Olivia brings a range of perspectives and approaches that can challenge and support any business owner to achieve their goals.
